april 1, 2006 things sculpture, assemblage, found object, readymade I've been making, "things". I don't know if I can call them sculpture because they aren't made with the same attention to aesthetic or physical issues that I am used to. They are more found objects, assemblages, gathered bits of stuff that stick together more in the tradition of paintings in their additive character. Many of these things are mechanized or have parts that light up. As a rule they are interactive and invite exploration. The materials used are often quite mundane. I hope that the next time someone happens upon an object like one that I used in piece they will remember the content that I load into that object. They will never see these everyday things the same again. |
april 1, 2006 traditional painting, drawing, photography It is kind of hard for me to call myself a painter now. Even though I come from a tradition of painting. Painting is certainly not dead. There is still so much content and concept that blooms wonderfully in that goopy medium. People straighten up and expect something from these traditional forms of media. Drawings have their own romantic baggage and carry immediate emotion so well. The very sketchy ambiguity of a drawing is gold. I put photography here as well. These are mediums with a history. People think they know what to expect from them. I hope that I have a few surprises to share. |
april 1, 2006 digital collage, digital drawing, digital painting This area contains the many faces of new media that is influenced heavily by the computer and other technological tools. I don't believe that a work needs to stay safely inside computer confines to be digital. The influence of bits and bytes on a piece is as obvious and penetrating as photography is to traditional 2D arts. |
