flat
graphic design, logos, print, rendering

Many things in design are centered around the two-dimensional concept. This is not to say that they are less exciting, they deal with those issues. What happens if it is printed? Well, it is still meant to be interacted with in a 2D way.

real
environmental, packaging, product, architecture, retail, and exhibit design

Design, applied to the real world, has a whole new set of issues and opportunities to address. Do it wrong and it can kill people! Or just make a very nice experience.

ethereal
interactive, internet, and information design

There is a lot of the design world that never seems to leave the medium of digital devices. It is transmitted through the ether without out ever feeling the need to be real.
